The Jagna celebration of the women’s month culminated last March 25, 2011 at the Jagna Gym  attended by women-members of the Kahugpungan sa Kababayen-an sa Jagna – Local Council of Women, Inc. (KKJ-LCW, Inc.) from the 33 barangays and LGU Jagna employees.

Hon. Nimfa A. Lloren, SB Chairperson of the Committee on Social Services & Gender Concerns gave the rationale. Promoting Gender Equality and Women Empowerment was the focus as well as the Magna Carta of Women.

Hon. Mariquit D. Oppus was the guest speaker giving emphasis on the theme “Magna Carta of Women, the Philippine CEDAW: In support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”.

Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women is the Philippine’s version of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. This is in line with the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals which are: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development.

Hon. Oppus told the women of Jagna to make use of the law designed specifically for women.
