A thousand and more kilometer walk for children with cancer

Tomas Leonor, a native of Laguna, is embarking on a “one-man” walking expedition to raise funds for cancer patients at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC).

He has walked from Pagudpud to Sorsogon and raised more than 1.5M pesos. Now on his Visayas expedition, Step Juan BAI, Tomas Leonor’s walk started at Allen, Samar and will end in Boracay with a total distance of 1,178.8 kilometers in 56 days.

Day 22 of his Step Juan BAI, started at the Jagna Municipal Hall. He made a courtesy call with Mayor Fortunato Abrenilla who inquired about his mission.

Mr. Leonor said that when he was young he was hospitalized at the PCMC and benefited from the government’s health services at the hospital. This mission is his way of giving back to the PCMC for the benefits he enjoyed while hospitalized.

He furthered that while at the PCMC he saw children with cancer and felt that his complaints on life were naught compared with what these children are feeling.

With Vice Mayor Exam Lloren, he went to make a brief appearance at the ongoing session of the 7th Sangguniang Bayan.

Tomas Leonor then proceeded to the Municipal Hall grounds and with volunteers from Jagna and an escort coming from the 5th Special Forces Company from Bagungbayan, Pilar started his walk towards Valencia.

Volunteers from Jagna who walked with him until Can-uba were Ferdinand Falcis of DYJP and his volunteers; Mr. Catalino Berro, Municipal Librarian; Ms. Amiela Balaba, Municipal Information Officer; Mr. Antioco Lloren, a known philanthropist; Mr. Rochel Agad, JCES teacher and Elenita Basilio.
