Jagna observes Rizal Day in Run for Leyte event

On December 30 is the 117th observance of the nationalism and martyrdom of our national hero Dr. Jose P. Rizal. This year’s theme of the celebration is “Rizalismo: Sandigan ng Kaunlaran, Pagkakaisa at Kapayapaan”.

The Local Government Unit of Jagna in celebration of Rizal’s nationalism and martyrdom and in the spirit of Pagkakaisa will hold a “Run for a Cause: Run for Leyte” on December 30 at 7:00AM instead of holding a regular program. This celebration is aimed to arouse the nationalistic fervor of the people as well as be one with the victims of the recent calamities through a collective fund-raising to aid them in rebuilding.

Wreath-laying at the monument of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in Jagna will be done prior to the main event. Mayor Fortunato R. Abrenilla will lead the wreath-laying to be followed by Vice Mayor Bonifacio J. Virtudes, Jr. and members of the 8th Sangguniang Bayan.

At 7:30, Run for a Cause: Run for Leyte will commence. The assembly area is at the Rizal Park and the runners/joggers will traverse through barangay roads completing a 3- kilometer plus route going back to the Rizal Park.

A registration of ten pesos per regular employee will go to the victims of ST Yolanda in Leyte through the parish.

Invited to celebrate the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal are national government agencies, provincial agencies and local businesses.

DepEd students and pupils sing, dance and play musical instruments for Jesus

The second night of the Yuletide Tri-Night Festival and Christmas Night Bazaar of the Local Government Unit of Jagna and Snowdrop Travel and Tour showcased the talented students and pupils of the different private and public schools within the town.

Held last December 23, 2013, the event was opened with an invocation from Engr. Gerry V. Araneta. Mr. Marcelo Lloren, principal of Jagna Central Elementary School provided the welcome message and rationale of the show.

Singers who shared their beautiful voices were Ms. Maegan Elaba from Jagna Central Elementary School (JCES), John Mark Maputol of Faraon National High School, Alex Gallardo and Julia Acebes of Canjulao Elementary School and Ms. Venus Sadudaquil of Snowdrop Travel and Tour.

The students of Faraon National High School who were winners in the recently concluded provincial press conference showcased their talents in radio broadcasting selecting snippets from recent news items of the town.

Bunga Mar Elementary School Musical Ensemble played a medley of lively Christmas songs that the audience joined in thru singing and tapping.

A choral rendition was presented by pupils of Cantagay Elementary School.

The second night of the Yuletide Tri-Night Festival was ably hosted by Mr. Merlino Acebes.

Snowdrop Travel and Tour’s Mrs. Maria Mignon A. Webb in partnership with LGU’s Kagawad Maricris V. Jamora organized the event. This Yuletide Tri-Night Festival and Christmas Night Bazaar is aimed at merrily celebrating Christmas together despite sad experiences encountered.

 

 

MNC reviews 2013 activities

The Municipal Nutrition Council’s actions and strategies in the year 2013 contained in the Municipal Nutrition Action Plan (MNAP) were under review during the Strategic Planning and Program Implementation Review on December 19, 2013 held at the Capt. Goyo Hall. Ms. Julieta Manliguez, provincial nutrition coordinator provided inputs.
Participants during the review were barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), barangay nutrition councils (BNC) of the 33 barangays in the municipality, the municipal nutrition action officer and the municipal nutrition coordinator.
Part of the review conducted were evaluation of records of the BNC, BNS, MNC and purok centers. A feedbacking and open forum followed the review.
Jagna’s Municipal Nutrition Council has received awards from the National Nutrition Council Region 7 and National Nutrition Council for successful program implementation in nutrition. It was awarded a cash prize of Php 500,000.00 last November 5, 2013 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City being a Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) for maintaining its outstanding status in 3 years. The religious implementation on the program Pabasa sa Nutrisyon has earned national recognition for the past 3 years.
The municipality’s focus on healthy lifestyle and good nutrition through better information dissemination has made compliance in the barangays uncomplicated. Better understanding was achieved through constant drilling during radio program and visits to barangays. Topics in nutrition education range from promotion of good nutrition including exclusive breastfeeding and infant and young child feeding and food production.
Direct interventions were not set aside. Supplemental feeding in collaboration with NGO partner Philos Health played a significant role in combating malnutrition. Farmers Field School on rice production technology, organic vegetable production and corn production technology in barangays were implemented.
Purok Center empowerment is one of the strategies employed in the year 2013. Constant monitoring by the council is a strategy that made compliance in the barangays efficient.
Consistent implementation and monitoring of programs were strategies of the MNC that made implementation of programs successful. Persistence in following up the programs with the BNS and BNC paved the way for ease in compliance to tasks and responsibilities in the barangays.

A merry Christmas for Jagnaanons

United in the spirit of christmas, Snowdrop Travel & Tour and the Local Government Unit of Jagna celebrates this 2013 christmas season the Snowdrop Travel & Tour Tri-Night Festival and LGU Jagna Christmas Night Bazaar. These events will formally open on December 16, 2013 and ends on January 1, 2014 to be held at the Jagna Municipal Plaza. The theme for this event is “Panaghi-usa Diha sa Pagbangon”.

 

The concept of the christmas bazaar was an offshoot of the successful implementation of the Tabo sa Jagna: First Jagna Trade Fair last September 2013 in time for the foundation day of Jagna and feast of St. Michael the Archangel.

 

The christmas bazaar will gather local small businesses food and dry goods at the Jagna Municipal Plaza every night from December 16, 2013 to January 1, 2013. The bazaar will open nightly from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The bazaar will also be a venue for local businesses to increase their earnings this christmas season.

 

On December 16th will gather religious leaders from all over Jagna to a prayer for peace, unity, courage and strength in the midst of calamities. This ecumenical rite will serve as the opening salvo of the tri-night festival.

 

The official lighting of the Christmas Tree and all the trees surrounding the plaza will be facilitated by Local Chief Executive Atty. Fortunato R. Abrenilla.

 

The 2nd Snowdrop Travel and Tour Lantern Competition  will formally open their lantern exhibit. Mrs. Ma. Mignon Webb, managing director, will give the mechanics of the competition as well as the prizes to be won.

 

The first Jagna Christmas Night Bazaar will be formally opened by the chairperson of the event, Hon. Maricris V. Jamora to be followed by the mass singing of Kasadya Ning Taknaa.

 

On December 23, the second night of the Yuletide Tri-Night Festival titled “A Christmas with the Educators and Students” will showcase the talented DepEd educators and students. They will provide the nightly entertainment thru songs and dances.

 

On the night of January 1, new year’s day will be “New Year’s Party at the Park” which is highlighted by the 2nd Snowdrop Travel & Tour Lantern Competition proclamation of winners and the closing of the Jagna Christmas Nightly Bazaar. The event will start at 7:00 PM and will close at 10:00 PM.

 

The plaza is designed to be alive all throughout the season. With sprakling stars and lights to add to the joyous celebration of the birthday of Jesus and most especially cheerful Jagnaanons that will reinforce their bond among families and among friends celebrating christmas together.
