BALA basic course for barangays

JAGNA – The Local Government Unit thru the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) spearheaded the conduct of the Basic and Refresher Course for all Barangay Livestock Aids (BALA) last April 28 and 29, 2011 in the MAO office at Lubcanan, Tubod Monte this town.

The purpose of the activity was to equip the BALA with the necessary knowledge and skill to respond to livestock related needs in their respective barangays.

At the end of the course and the practicum, the BALA is expected to provide quick response to livestock- related calls; establish a database on actual disease trend/occurrence in their respective areas; come up with data on population and animal movement in the barangay; design a workable animal health program in the barangay (vaccination and deworming); regularly consult and submit report to the Municipal Agricultural Officer; institute/administer drugs under the supervision of the Municipal Livestock Technician or Licensed Veterinarian; facilitate the issuance of birth certificate of the animal as a pre-requisite in the issuance of certificate of ownership as well as increase farmer access to livestock related services.

The practicum was conducted at Bunga Mar, Jagna. With the supervision of Mr. Bob Galero, BALA coordinator and Dr. Bobby Castro the resource person from the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), the BALAs demonstrated the administration of vaccines and castration to livestock.
