Can-upao welcomes first group of “benchmarkers”

A barangay”s quest for excellence earned it Jagna’s Outstanding Barangay for 2012.

Barangay Can-upao, a coastal barangay and home to 2,000 plus citizens toppled 32 other barangays in the recently held Barangay Administration Evaluation 2012. Spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government-Jagna in coordination with the Local Government Unit, the barangay evaluation was conducted to determine compliance of the 33 barangays to the mandates of the DILG. With an evaluation tool from the DILG, the evaluators consisting of representatives from the LGU and other sectors convened and visited the 33 barangays. The evaluating team composed of Engr. Gerry Araneta-MPDC; Engr. Josefina Ranoa-Municipal Engineer; Mr. Vicente Orias-Municipal DRRM Action Officer; Mr. Antioco Lloren-PTGA President of the District of Jagna; and Engr. Felix Pajo-media evaluated each barangay together with MLGOO Lito Dajalos.

After just a few weeks from its announcement, Can-upao today, August 29 welcomed its first ever visitors. The Barangay Council of San Roque, Maramag, Bukidnon together with staff from the Mayor’s Office of LGU Maramag and MLGOO Florence Waban arrived early afternoon in Barangay Can-upao to observe the best practices of the barangay. They were welcomed by the Can-upao Barangay Council and all the tanods headed by Punong Barangay Edcel Tutor.

A brief presentation about the town of Jagna as well as the profile of Barangay Can-upao was made by MLGOO Lito Dajalos. Mayor Fortunato Abrenilla expressed his thanks to the visitors for choosing to visit Barangay Can-upao.

MLGOO Florence Waban in her response speech thanked the the Council of Can-upao as well as the LGU. She said that upon searching for a place in Bohol to visit for benchmarking, Provincial DILG Director Loisella E. Lucino endorsed Can-upao for their visit. She added that they were not disappointed with what they’d seen within the barangay as well as the warm welcome by the people of Can-upao.

Among the visitors were Maribel Gudito, Romulo Gonzaga, Rogelio Salido, Jr., Johnny Cruta, Maximiano Bragat, Felix Salon, Jocelyn Bragat, Miraflor Egoc, Alonso Pader, Joey Arayan, Marjolyn Salvan, Paterno Lagapa, Jr.-Punong Barangay of San Roque, Wellie Lagapa, Jesus Candido headed by MLGOO Florence Waban.

Punong Barangay Edcel Tutor said that they are more than ready to accept visitors to their barangay and show these visitors the products of his council’s efforts at making Can-upao stand out among the rest. A barangay kagawad said that they are going to triple their efforts and do more not only for the visitors but also for the whole barangay.
