JAGNA – Jagna’s 2nd Calamay Festival 2016 celebrating “KALAMAY SA JAGNA: LINTUNGANAY NGA PANGINABUHI, SA KALIBUTAN GIPAKAMITHI” will take place on April 29-30, 2016 from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
To celebrate the calamay as part of the way of life of the Jagnaanons, the Local Government Unit in partnership with the present generation of the original calamay makers of Can-upao, businesses and civil society organizations joined hands to make this event another memorable year for the calamaderas and the people whose lives are directly or indirectly connected to the calamay.
The first Calamay Festival of Jagna showcased these present generation of original calamay makers. Calamay originated in barangay Can-upao. It has become their way of life and the source of family income. The calamay in Can-upao, Jagna uses a “concoction” that is original. Calamay found anywhere in the province has never duplicated this “concoction” which makes the calamay of Jagna distinct in taste and perfect in form (viscous).
The 2nd Calamay Festival will showcase free tasting of the different Jagnaanon food products topped with the sweet calamay. The entries for the Best Calamay-decorated Pedicab, Best Balanced Habal-Habal and Kite Flying all calamay themed will be presented on the first day. In the evening, is the search for Miss Jagna Festival 2016 a search for the young Jagnaanon lady that embody both beauty and intelligence.
Day 2, April 30, a newly – introduced Mayana Uphill Challenge will present the concept of biking to be held along the Sierra Bullones – Mayana interior road. The afternoon activities will be the awarding of winners of the different contests and the motorcade of the winners of the search. Night activity again will present the Kalamay Way of Life – a dramatization of the life of the calamaderas.
The Calamay Festival which anchors on a Municipal Ordinance seeking to establish the originality of the Calamay of Jagna among the calamays produced elsewhere in the province of Bohol.
The Municipality of Jagna grabbed 3 regional awards in the recently held DILG-7 2015 Year-end Evaluation and Awarding Ceremonies for Local Legislative Award, Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Award and TOBOY at the DepEd Ecotech Center in Cebu City last December 17, 2015.
The working 8th Sangguniang Bayan took home the Regional Local Legislative Awards (LLA) after receiving its Provincial Local Legislative Award in the first week of December.

The Regional Lupong Tagapamayapa Incentive Awards (LTIA) 2015 for 1st to 3rd class municipalities was grabbed by the Lupong Tagapamayapa of Can-upao, Jagna. The Lupong Tagapamayapa of Barangay Can-upao was also the winner in the recently – held awarding ceremonies in Bohol which qualified them to be the provincial bet to the regional search for the LTIA 2015.

Another Jagnaanon, Ms. Helencita Galbo, after winning the Provincial TOBOY again won as The Outstanding Barangay Official of The Year (TOBOY) 2015 Barangay Secretary Category in the whole Region 7. She is the Barangay Secretary of Balili, Jagna , Bohol.

Meanwhile, another Jagnaanon who now resides in Salvador, Cortes, Bohol bagged “The Outstanding Barangay Official of The Year (TOBOY) 2015 Barangay Treasurer Category” also for the whole Region 7. Ms. Maria Marvie R. Chiu hails from Pondol, Poblacion in Jagna.
All these awards indeed prove that Jagnaanons when accorded responsibilities are hardworkingly responsible and do their duties to the best they can.
