Collective cooperation for fish conservation

The provincial celebration of the 49th Fish Conservation Week on October 14-19 this year was formally opened last October 15 in Jagna. With the theme “Maunlad na Pangisdaan Makakamtan sa Matatag na Balikatan”, started with a parade from barangay Bunga Mar toward the Jagna Business Center.

The parade was participated by PNP Jagna, teachers and students of the Central Visayan Institute Foundation, Faraon National High School, Jagna High School, Colegio dela Medalla Molagrosa, Bohol Institute of Technology, LGU Jagna, barangay officials, people’s organizations, fish wardens/seaborne patrol groups and Bohol Coastal Resource Management Task Force member agencies (DENR, BFAR, BEMO, DILG, PNP Maritime, PPA, PAO, ATI, DepEd, ELAC, PROCESS-Bohol, MBEMO, MAKAMASA, BANGON, BIDEF, FCB Foundation, FTC, PADAYON BMT, PIA).

Highlights of the ceremony were the conduct of a short program, IEC on Fishery Laws, Climate Proofing and Waste Management. The ceremonial seeding of Abalone in barangays Naatang and Guinacot MPAs followed.

The 49th Fisn Conservation Week centered on partnership and collaboration for sustainable fisheries. Its crusade is collective management of fisheries resources to enable marine resources to rehabilitate itself. It is also encouraging law enforcement to act towards violations committed against fishery laws.

The activity was spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Provincial Government of Bohol and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 7.
