JAGNA – The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council in coordination with the Philippine National Police and Bureau of Fire Protection conducted on July 16 fire and earthquake drills in two schools of the town.
This aims at instructing teachers and pupils on the proper way to respond to situations like this that may arise. Studies have shown that ignorance in the proper handling of certain situations leads to fatal results.
An earthquake drill was conducted at Jagna Central Elementary School in the morning of July 16. Teachers and pupils were given brief instructions on what to do before the exercise. The simulation followed with corresponding administration of first aid to “casualties” of the drill.
Canjulao Elementary School was visited in the afternoon of July 16. The team conducted fire drill in the school. Again teachers and pupils were oriented on what to do in case a fire breaks out in the school. The orientation was followed by the actual fire drill.
Engr. Gerry Araneta of the MDRRMC said that the aim of the MDRRMC is to visit and conduct fire and earthquake drills to all the schools in the town to prepare for this eventuality.
