Jagna spends family day in Antequera

Almost three weeks after the destructive earthquake that severely hit several towns in Bohol, the Local Government Unit of Jagna is back on its feet. Conducting several meetings within the past week are the councils very critical to the town’s development.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) convened on Tuesday, October 29 to discuss the support the LGU will undertake to constituents affected by the7.2 magnitude earthquake. The municipality received assistance from Davao City in the amount of Php 500,000 and Php 250,000 from Valenzuela City. This became part of the discussions as to the form of assistance that will best benefit and assuage the difficulties some barangays and constituents are experiencing.

Part of the discussion of the MDRRMC is the conduct of another relief goods distribution to the town of Antequera. The council agreed that the project will serve as the LGU’s family day celebration. Rice, water, dried fish, hygiene pack and medicines were given to two barangays – Maybunga and Mag-aso in Antequera. There were 300 packs of relief goods distributed by the LGU.

BANGON BOHOL

On October 30, another significant group was convened by the LGU. In attaining the Philippine Development Plan’s goals of inclusive growth and reduction of poverty, promotion of good governance at the local level, implementation for the fiscal year 2015 of the Grassroots Participatory Budgeting Process (Grassroots Budgeting) formerly called Bottom-up Budgeting is taking its first steps in Jagna. Convening the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) existing in the municipality is a very important step. This assembly’s objective is to gather, analyze and share results of poverty situation and other local poverty data in our locality and to identify strategies to address poverty. The agenda include orientation to CSOs on local governance, highlighting the role of CSOs in Local Development Councils (LDCs) and Local Special Bodies (LSBs), as well as explain the rationale for and process of BuB; election of Local Poverty Reduction Action Team (LPRAT) representatives. The CSOs will independently select the organizations that will represent CSOs in the LPRAT. Elected officials, their immediate relatives (spouse, parent, sibling, child), and LGU employees are ineligible to be elected as CSO representatives; and selection of the LPRAT co-chairperson and CSO signatories of the Local Poverty Reduction Action Plan (LPRAP).

The significance of this assembly is to come up with the team (LPRAT) which will determine the development needs at the local level and come up with budget proposals for inclusion in the FY 2015 National Expenditure Program.

The Municipal Planning and Development Office and the Department of Interior and Local Government spearheaded the activity.
