The Municipal Agriculture Office facilitated the meeting of all presidents of irrigator associations last November 15 held at the Capt. Goyo Casenas Hall.
This move is in line with the national government’s effort to enhance the productivity of the agricultural sector towards Self-Sufficiency by providing technologies and improved rice seeds to produce Certified Rice Seeds for the barter system program to farmers within Jagna.
A technical briefing was conducted to capacitate the farmers on new rice technologies that are guaranteed to improve rice production.
During the briefing, each farmer-producer identified will be given two kilograms of registered rice seeds to be planted this dry cropping season of 2011-2012. Upon harvest, these seed producers will barter the harvested certified rice seeds to the rice farmers of Jagna in a scheme of 1:15. For every certified rice seeds produced by the farmer-producers they will give 11.5 kilos of good seeds as barter.
A Memorandum of Agreement will be drafted to be signed by the Department of Agriculture, LGU Jagna and Irrigator’s Association.
After the technical briefing, the organization of these farmer-leaders into the Jagna Rice Seed Producers Association as well as election of association officers followed.
The Jagna Rice Seed Producers Association Officers are the following: Guillermo Aviles, president; Domingo Lasdoce, vice-president; Ludina Casenas, Secretary; Daniel Lusica, treasurer; Floro Lacre, auditor. The Board of Directors are: Medelino Acedo, Loreto Tadem, Teodoro Pagar, Jovito Tadle, Claudio Sajulga, Jaime Pajo, Quirino Ladaran, Cirilo Acala and Leo Ampo.
