MAO spearheads farmers field school on ubi

The Municipal Agriculture Office-Farmers Information and Technology Services (FITS) on June 23 launched the Technology Demonstration and Season-long Training on Organic Ubi Production.
According to Mr. Camilo Rizano, municipal agriculture officer, this techno demo will be participated by 30 ubi growers from selected
ube producing barangays. He further said that the farmers field school concept where lecture and on hand farming demonstration showing the participants new methods in organic ubi production will be employed.
The demonstration encompasses technology on land preparation, plantation establishment, maintenance and harvest to be done in 8
months.
This .project is funded by PCARD and a ceremonial transplantation at the MAO field was conducted

Funded by Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research & Development (PCARRD), the ceremonial
transplantation was done on Saturday with Mr. Rizano and Mr. Alberto Café, municipal administrator witnessed by personnel of the MAO.

Jagna is known for its ubi powder. It has been awarded in 2008 as the best FITS product in Bohol. This program will ensure that the ubi
powder production will be sustainable in the municipality as demand has increased.

The MAO on the other hand is thankful to the Department of Agriculture for the draft carabao donation which will be used to till the fields
at the MAO.
