MDRRMC execute activities for disaster preparedness

The Local Government Unit thru the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council has lined up activities in observance of July as Disaster Consciousness Month.

Last July 25 in time for Arbor Day, the observance of the Disaster Consciousness Month had an early kick-off. The tree growing activity held in barangay Pangdan, this town, served as the beginning of the month-long observance. It was participated by LGU employees and elected officials; national and provincial government agencies.

With the theme, “Makialam. Makiisa. Sa Pagsugpo ng Panganib May Maitutulong Ka”, the activities are designed for pre-disaster preparedness.

On July 15, an earthquake drill was conducted at the municipal building participated by all LGU personnel. The Jagna Emergency Medical Rescue Unit and personnel of the RHU 1 administered to the “casualty” of the earthquake to show how first aid is to be applied. The “duck, cover and hold” was emphasized during the drill.

On July 7 and 14, Engr. Gerry Araneta, Chairperson of the Ad Hoc Committee on MDRRMC/CCA and  MPDC of LGU Jagna served as guest in the weekly LGU Hour at the Jagna Community Radio (DYJP) to provide information and guidance to the public as to the activities the whole July as part of  the Information, Education Campaign.

Information on disaster preparedness and risk reduction are being disseminated on air as well as risk hazards faced by the municipality in accordance with the report of the PHILVOLCS or the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

 A fire drill exercise will be done at the Jagna Public Market on July 21 to be led by the Bureau of Fire Protection in Jagna.

On July 20 instead of the usual HATAW by the LGU employees every Wednesday from 3:00 o’clock to 5 o’clock in the afternoon, this time will be devoted to another tree growing activity at barangay Can-upao. Again all LGU employees and elected officials, other government agencies will participate and each planted seedling will bear the name of the one who planted it.

An MDRRMC Action Planning Workshop will be conducted on July 29 to prepare for activities and plans for the year 2012.   

Mayor Fortunato R. Abrenilla is enjoing the public to be involved and cooperate in all disaster preparedness activities initiated by the LGU and MDRRMC.
