The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and the Municipal Health Office (MHO) thru the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) lines up activities for June 29.
Annually, it has been the practice of the town to celebrate the feast of St. Peter every 29th of June. Activities start with a holy mass at 6:00 in the morning followed by the annual Alay Lakad then people go off to the beach to celebrate.
This year, in time for June 29 Alay Lakad is also the celebration of the launching of July as Nutrition Month. Spearheaded by the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC), the nationwide theme for this nutrition month is “Isulong ang Breastfeeding, Tama, Sapat at Eksklusibo”.
To ensure proper growth and development of infants, the government thru the National Nutrition Council zeroes in on breastfeeding as the way towards this goal.
It is a campaign to give importance to breastfeeding as the first food for infants from the first hour from birth until six months.
Tama, according to the NNC means immediate skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby after birth and initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of life. Sapat, means encouraging and assuring mothers that little breastmilk is enough for the first few weeks and that frequent breastfeeding ensures continuous breastmilk supply. Eksklusibo ensures giving only breastmilk and no other liquid for the first six months.
Educational campaign on the importance of breasfeeding is undertaken by the MHO. It has been widely promoted that breastmilk is the best milk for infants and breastfeeding guarantees the strong and unbreakable bond between mother and child.
All are enjoined by Mayor Fortunato Abrenilla to participate in the Alay Lakad as well as attend the launching of Nutrition Month to be held at the Jagna Gym.
