The town of Jagna is one municipality fully prepared to take on Pablo. Equipped with the reality that Pablo is unstoppable, it instead focused on preparedness to mitigate the impact brought about by the super typhoon.
A day prior to Pablo’s expected land fall, December 3, the chairperson of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and local chief executive Atty. Fortunato R. Abrenilla convened the council to discuss the coming disaster. With the heads of offices, the MLGOO and the MDRRMC Action Officer, PNP and BFP the discussion zeroed in on preparedness measures and actions taken as well as plans for the next day and Pablo’s landfall.
An operations center was readied and the MDRRMC headed by Mayor Fortunato R. Abrenilla and some employees of the LGU readied the necessary equipment and relief goods in case the need arises.
The personnel of Municipal Engineering Office were on standby to assist the JEMRU, BFP and PNP in road clearing activities. Six teams were created to monitor the whole town. Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council action officers were directed the proper way of handling and monitoring their respective barangays’ responses.
True to the weather advisories, Pablo reared the seas causing huge waves. The barangays of Cantagay, Looc and Pagina had to evacuate residents along the shorelines to safety. There were 28 families in Cantagay evacuated to the Cantagay Elementary School; 8 families from Looc brought to the barangay hall; and 14 families Pagina that sought refuge in the barangays hall, chapel and the public market.
Relief goods were promptly distributed to each family by the MDRRMC.
