Tree growing activity launched this June

One of the problems faced by the Municipality is its declining forest cover due to cutting of trees for house construction as well as cutting for firewood.

The local government as well as concerned peoples organizations are alarmed as this may cause more problematic situations to arise such as landslide, liquefaction and flash floods especially that the municipality is prone to these situations.

Mayor Fortunato Abrenilla foresees that if this problem will not be mitigated, it could lead to critical disasters.

Thru the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), the LGU is spearheading tree growing activities which will be launched this month of June as the rainy season has started and in time for Arbor Day celebration. This will last until December of this year.

This activity will be led by Mayor Abrenilla and all municipal officials, employees and partner institutions. Areas targeted are barren hills of Tejero, Tubod Monte, Mayana, Cambugason covering 20 hectares.

This tree growing activity is planned for sustainability. Plans are now ready to dispatch this activity to the barangays as they will also be providing after care services to the newly-planted seedlings.

Rehabilitating the areas that are now denuded is one of the focuses of this administration. With its aim to increase declining water supply and mitigate impact of natural disasters, the LGU has made moves towards this end.
